Critical telecommunications support for the U.S. military in Okinawa

The White Beach communications site is a critical military telecommunication facility that provides transmission and communications support to the Navy base at White Beach in Okinawa, Japan. It is also an integral part of the Defense Information System Network, a protected telecommunications network that enables the exchange of information in an interoperable, global space for Okinawa, Japan.

The telecommunications site required an immediate upgrade of their standby power and electrical distribution systems to ensure uninterrupted operation at all times. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers selected Louis Berger to replace and upgrade the power systems at the White Beach military site.

Louis Berger provided temporary standby power while the existing standby generators were removed and replaced with the following equipment:

  • Two 80kW standby generators.
  • Two automatic transfer switches.
  • Two isolation transformers.
  • A main distribution panel.
  • Motorized dampers and louvers.
  • Metal shrouding, exhaust system and exhaust penetrations.

Louis Berger provided materials, installation, startup up, testing and commissioning services and a two-year warranty on materials and labor.
